Since the Storm
The Devastation
At approximately 1 am on Saturday, September 13, 2008 Galveston was hit head on by a category 3 hurricane, with a devastating 15 ft storm surge. Most of the island went totally under water and suffered some sort of damage due to the storm. Bible Baptist was not exempt from this. Taking in over three feet of water in the main buildings and eight feet in the downstairs, we lost hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of contents in damages, including most of our sound system, all our office equipment, our computers, our pews, and our classroom supplies and furniture. While many churches have struggled and some have even closed due to the damage -- financial and emotional -- caused by the storm, Bible Baptist has overcome many hurtles and managed to move forward and grow in spite and somewhat because of this trial. Churches, BBC members, and extended BBC family across the nation have supported us through this difficult time with gifts of money, time, prayer, encouragement, and their own hands and help. What could have been the end for us has instead become our witness and testimony to a God Who is:
"Bigger than the air we breathe,
the world we'll leave.
And God will save the day,
and all will say
'My Glorious! My Glorious!'"
